For some reason, I find dories to be beautiful and fascinating little boats. A dory is typically a small, shallow-draft boat, with high sides, a flat bottom and sharp bow. For centuries, dories have been used as traditional fishing boats both in coastal waters and in the open sea. They’re also used as lifeboats on draggers and long liners, yacht tenders, and for general pleasure boating. Hand-crafted dories are quite popular as they are easy to build because of their simple lines. It’s common to see shops that build them all along the New England coast, including this one in Gloucester. The shop was closed when I visited last weekend, but this dory out in front made a wonderful photo subject. I’m hoping to get back on a weekday when the shop is open to see if I can get some shots of the inside where the boats are actually built.

Terrific perspective and color Steven
Great shot, Steven. Love the POV and processing with this vivid color.
This dory looks like it is very well built.
Very cool shot Steven! I’m with both Len and Jimi, love the pov on this!
That boat looks like a banana with that color! Very cool!
Awesome POV, I feel like I’m about to go boating!
Cool POV here Steven! I like the symmetry of the boat!
I agree these are great little boats to photograph. I love your POV on this shot. Well done.
Makes me want to go out on a lake and fish
Unusual angle but it works very well!
Excellent image. You really get a nice insite on the inside of these dories!
I really like the angular distortion, Steven. Makes a great visual abstract. Nice!
